Book Review — Dead Weight: The Tombs (Dead Weight #1) by M. Todd Gallowglas

DEAD WEIGHT: The Tombs (Dead Weight #1)DEAD WEIGHT: The Tombs by M. Todd Gallowglas
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Note: I received a free ARC from the author in return for an honest review.

This book was so good I finished it in a single flight. Granted, that was a 15-hour flight to Australia, and this is part one of a serialized novel…but forget that, it’s awesome.

Dead Weight explores Faerie in a deeper way than I’ve seen before. Sure, Rothfuss, Tolkien, and Butcher touch on it—but not like this. It brings back all the wonder associated with the mythology, and only adds more.

What I found even more exciting was its treatment of art and story within story. It appealed directly to my creative side, and I’m sure it will to yours too.

Now, I know that M. Todd Gallowglass admires Steven Erikson, and I can confidently say that not since I’ve read the Malazan Book of the Fallen have I been so deliciously confused.

Get this ASAP because it’s a story that deserves reading, but more importantly so that I’ll have someone with which to agonizingly wait for more.

This is a world that sucks you right. A page-turner not from some cheap writer’s trick, but from an honest-to-goodness desire to learn more about the story, so I’ll finish with WHERE IS PART TWO HURRY UP AND GIVE IT TO ME.
