Book Review — Batman: The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller

Batman: The Dark Knight ReturnsBatman: The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Brilliant graphic novel; easy to see why so many consider it a “classic.”

That being said, I’ve never read any Batman comics before, or even any superhero comics really. It was an interesting style departure from some of the current comics I’m enjoying like Saga, Volume 1, The Walking Dead, Vol. 1: Days Gone Bye, and Lazarus, Vol. 1: Family. More along the lines of Watchmen.

Frank Miller manages to weave many POVs, and I particularly liked the media attention and reaction to the vigilante Batman.

The part with Superman confused me, because I was unfamiliar with the background story and the crossover. Thank goodness there’s Wikipedia to back you up.

Overall a good superhero comic, even if you’re not an avid reader/fan.
